Mooroolbark train station upgrade arrives ahead of schedule

Mooroolbark stationThe upgrade of the Mooroolbark train station has been completed, and it is looking fantastic. The new station entrance leads directly to the Brice Avenue pedestrian crossing, integrating the station with the local street and shopping area.

Construction on the station upgrade, part of the Mooroolbark Community Hub project, began in August 2014 and was completed ahead of schedule on Monday 8 Decemeber 2014.

The station has been transformed with a new café space and canopy, landscaping and new station entrance, as well as enhanced lighting and additional CCTV cameras.

Connecting the Mooroolbark town centre

The Mooroolbark Community Hub Project is part of the Train Stations as Creative Community Hubs program. The project has upgraded the safety, accessibility and comfort of Mooroolbark Station and transformed it into a vibrant and pleasant space for both commuters and the local community to enjoy.

The Mooroolbark Community Hub Project included:

– additional CCTV cameras and improved lighting
– upgrades to ramps, footpaths, signage and the car park (including new accessible parking spaces and drop off facilities)
– a new café and canopy over the station entrance
– upgraded and improved landscaping in the station forecourt area.

The project was developed with input from local residents, business owners, community groups and Yarra Ranges Council.
